In these times of increased pressure and stress and continued social isolation the need for a new sense of togetherness and mindfulness is paramount. To see the communication created by Marcus Rashford to effect positive change in society has been wonderful and demonstrates how as individuals we really can make a difference in the world. To see a change that can be made and to say ‘Yes, I’m going to do something about that’. Is a great power that truly can exist within all of us, whether it be on a large scale or whether it be something that we think only we might notice. The way we are with ourselves and the way we are with those we might be close to. On a small scale, it might be making a phone call, having a shower, or gently beginning to attend to our selfcare needs.

Everything begins somewhere and perhaps the hardest things that are beneficial to change are the little things about ourselves that we have been meaning to change for years and have not quite got round to yet. Perhaps by taking the time and giving ourselves the permission to make the changes within ourselves we can begin a process of change that will grow and grow. Perhaps it does only take a few drops of water and a few rays of sun to fall upon a garden to bring flowers into bloom. Then perhaps so this is true in our own worlds too. We may not be about to change the entire world but a few acts of self-administered kindness may just be the start of the change to our individual world. The adage change nothing and nothing changes is very true and these changes do not need to be big and sweeping but small changes can eventually lead into waves of change both for ourselves and those around us.
Arguably one of the things that this era of covid 19 has brought us is the time for change. As with personal training it’s the days when we do something even when we do not feel like it that can reap real rewards. The days we tread water rather than drifting further in our downward spirals that can really make a sea change to the way that we feel and the way that we are.
What are those things we can change? Is it a few minutes of housework or taking a walk that we promised ourselves? Is it paying a few minutes to attention to our personal care?
We are so often our own biggest critics and judges, we didn’t do this well enough, we should have done that better and we hear the inner critic within is, the heavy low notes of the piano become more dominant than the lighter higher notes of the piano the notes that suggest that we can achieve things and that things are possible.

Today I encourage you to listen to both the high notes and the low notes to allow integration to know that it is ok to set your goals and to give yourself permission to start the journey towards achieving individual daily targets and in so doing achieve the bigger goals you desire.
Acknowledge the journey and to know whatever feelings arise they are there for a purpose but notice which end of the piano they come from as slowly you allow the changes to occur in your life.
