The Art of Here and Now

How many times have you found yourself wondering how the things we do possibly make a difference, sometimes these considerations may see us drift along without making attempts at the things we find challenging.

Sometimes we may choose an alternative path for ourselves and realise that we really can make a difference in our own lives and in the lives of the people we feel closest to. In order to achieve this we need to give our attention to the here and now for this is when we can really make the difference.

When there are so many distractions how can we focus on the here and now and continue to give this time our attention?

There are various immediate different tasks we can achieve in the here and now and an immediate subdivision of them may highlight the everyday tasks of everyday existence and those tasks that are built upon building towards tomorrow and times yet to come.

Tasks that engage us in building systems, building structures, and building processes in our daily lives that are designed to support us building for a brighter future. Whilst we acknowledge, are influenced and pay respect to events from our past it is here and now where we really have the power to make the difference in our lives. It is in the here and now where we can take the opportunities to fashion and shape the way in which we desire ourselves to be in the future.

Undoubtedly the patterns of our lives will have been shaped and influenced by the events of the past six months.

Our lives may have been shaped by loss and change. Coming to terms with the loss of a loved one or a change in an employment situation. Changes have been occurring in many peoples working lives, being furloughed, being made redundant as a result of the shifting economic situation. For some now having established the practice of working from home their may be increasing anxieties about the prospect of once again having to return to the workplace and personal health and safety issues that this may bring about. Issues of work-related anxiety will be further explored in my next blog.

The one thing we can guarantee about change may be the inevitability that regardless of our actions events and circumstances will change. If we accept this truth then we also have it within our grasp to play an active part in this process of change and to start to shape and mould our lives into the lives we would choose them to be.

In allowing our relationship and reaction to events and situations in our lives change then we allow ourselves to change and alter the events that exist within our lives.

If I always respond in a certain manner to the behaviour of another or in reaction to an event, then with a degree of predictability the relationship or event will not change. Perhaps it is almost inevitable that similar situations with similar outcomes will arise again and again in our lives. This pattern may continue until we open ourselves to the process of change and allowing this change to exist.

In being open to change we can remind ourselves of our humanity and to make positive changes in our lives and in the world around us.
